Matthew, aged 14, has Biliary Atresia, a rare liver disease and is waiting to go on the liver transplant list. Matthew’s wish was to spend a few days away with his family and he chose to stay in a beautiful holiday lodge in Cumbria.
The family travelled from their home in Newcastle to The Thanet Well Lodge Retreat. The surrounding area was so calm and peaceful, it was just what they needed. Matthew, his parents Alison and Tony, his sister and the dog all settled into their amazing lodge. They spent their days exploring the surroundings and enjoying each other’s company.
The lodge owners were made aware that it was Matthew’s birthday later in the week and they kindly organised a hamper of chocolates and sweets, which went down very well! The wonderful thing about their break was being able to spend time together and being able to sit down to eat as a family and talk. Life is normally so hectic for them.
Mum said: “We visited Keswick and Penrith, had some lovely pub lunches and relaxed, spending some quality family time together, it was just nice to all be in the same room, with general chit chat and spending time together. The hot tub was a real bonus, even in the rain yesterday. I cannot thank you enough for giving us the chance to do normal family things during such a tough time for us, we are truly grateful.”
